Manchester International Festival Creative50 Commission:
"10 Mancunian Gestures"
I am part of Manchester International Festival’s Creative50 talent development programme for Greater Manchester creatives. My role as a member of this year’s Creative50 is to create two different responses to the Festival programme that can be shared online.
I have responded to MIF’s show ‘10000 Gestures’ to create this series of works. By studying hand gestures and considering the shapes and forms found within gestures, I have created 10 unique pieces interpreting the show in my own way.
To emphasise the Manchester connection to the show and the festival, I have studied hand gestures of the people of Manchester in order to create these manifestations. Each bright, hand painted and cut out shape is my interpretation of the forms I found, collated to create a window installation. The backdrop of Manchester’s cityscape - photographed from Bruntwood's Neo building - is an important link bringing MIF’s show back to its city in a more permanent way.
The work seen below is a digital creation of images as an imagining of a future installation. Each collage has been created by hand and then edited digitally to create the pieces.
This online gallery showcases the series, please feel free to send me some feedback or get in touch for more information:
